Compass Labs Intern Profile: Kelvin Low
Kelvin Low is helping to lead Compass Labs’ summer team of data analysis interns. After graduating with a degree in quantitative economics from Duke University, he returned to Singapore to work for Singapore Airlines in strategy and marketing for 4 years as part of a merit scholarship. He is currently enrolled in a two-year, full-time MBA program at Harvard Business School.
Compass Labs: Describe your role at Compass Labs, and what you are hoping to accomplish during your time here:

Kelvin Low: I'm helping to lead our summer team of data scientists to develop and validate data insights from all the social media data that Compass Labs collects. I also spend time coordinating with engineering and marketing to advance development of some features for our upcoming product launch. My hope is that the work our team has made progress on this summer will be continued. I'll love to work together with our engineers and a successor PM to create a longer term product development road map for some features that we are currently testing.
CL: How has working at Compass Labs differed from your previous experience?
KL: Start-up life is very different from my previous work environments in corporate and military. I'm enjoying the spontaneity and flexibility here! It's like a daily box of mixed chocolates - you never know what you're going to get, or what the next hour brings!
CL: Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
KL: Hopefully sipping margaritas on the beach in Puerto Rico or Costa Rica every year. Pura Vida!
CL: How do you spend your weekends?
KL: Running, biking, reading and storing up Vitamin D for another winter in Boston later this year. I love the outdoors and the fabulous summer weather here in Cali!
CL: If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
KL: My wife's cooking.
CL: Tell us one random fun fact about yourself:
KL: I tried camel meat once in Qatar, where it's served on a bed of rice on top of a table that sits ten, and you eat the meat off the bone. It's actually considered a huge delicacy, but I'd prefer never to have to do that again - exotic foods are not for me.
CL: Who is your vote for Compass Labs' foosball MVP?
KL: Someone who never ever plays - after all, no one dares to challenge them since they are so skillful! So, Ananth, Dilip, Charles or Jacquie!
